Our Strategy

Huangpu Mining's objective is to explore, develop, and purify ethically sourced cobalt for resale in the Asian battery market and beyond. We are working on our project in Huangpu, Guangdong.

Why Invest in Cobalt

Cobalt is a solid, shiny metal with poor heat conductivity and a high energy density. Cobalt is utilized in the cathode of certain rechargeable lithium-ion battery electrodes to enhance stability and extend battery life.

Battery grade cobalt output, which was nearly 50,000 tpa for the past years, will have to climb more than 300% to 205,000 tpa to meet the cobalt demands of the whole battery industry if only 10% of the 2026 NCM cathode market adopts the 8-1-1 chemistry.

Commercial 8-1-1 NCM chemistry is expected to be used in 10 years or more, while cobalt-free batteries are still a laboratory study. Despite the efforts of certain researchers to develop an NMC battery with no cobalt, current estimations suggest that at least 10% cobalt must be utilized in battery cathode chemistry at all times for safety and battery longevity.

Cobalt is currently produced as a by-product of copper or nickel operations, accounting for over 90% of the world's supply. Our goal at Huangpu Mining is to become a major cobalt producer as well as the most attractive cobalt stock on the market.
