Huangpu Mining / Responsibility

Responsibility

EXTRACTION OF LONG-TERM VALUE IN AN ETHICAL AND RESPONSIBLE MANNER

Responsibility

Here at Huangpu Mining, we are proud to be a transformative exploration company. Our main focus is on locating new cobalt sources. More fundamentally, the cobalt projects we advance can be essential in powering lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and electric battery storage. Both technologies will aid in the reduction of global carbon emissions, the acceleration of the global economy's transition to a low-carbon future, and, as a result, will be critical in combating climate change.

Health and Safety

We believe that safety is a way of life and is always the responsibility of everyone. "Work safe, live safe" is our motto.

Mining, by its very nature, involves some dangers. As an employer, it is our responsibility to ensure a safe working environment. For that purpose, we take responsibility to:

  • Provide workers with the equipment and tools they need to perform their activities safely and make sure they use them;
  • Establish policies and procedures that reflect proven and leading practices to help us run our operations safely;
  • Provide every employee with the required training to perform their work safely and effectively, including emergency response procedures;
  • Conduct thorough investigations into potential accidents to identify how to prevent them from happening;
  • Never compromise the safety of anyone for the sake of production.

Promoting a Safety Culture

We have a Board-approved Corporate Health and Safety Policy and have chosen to build an industry-compliant Health and Safety Management Organization. Directives defining minimum site health and safety standards and performance requirements will guide this initiative. We will be able to identify, evaluate, and manage risks throughout the operation using this method.

Regular inspections are conducted by a specialized safety team on site, and the use of personal protective equipment is required at all times.We monitor and audit our performance on a regular basis to evaluate the effectiveness of our systems, and we produce reports to the Board of Directors to ensure the necessary level of monitoring and control.

Environment

Our goal is to reduce our environmental footprint by preventing, mitigating, or remediating the negative consequences of our operations through good planning and innovative techniques.

We aim to foster a culture of environmental stewardship and team accountability for sustainable environmental management. We identify opportunities for mitigation and remediation, as well as the adoption of leading-edge environmental management systems, equipment, and procedures.

To that effect, we are continuing to collect environmental baseline data on ground and surface water, soil, noise, and air, which will be put into long-term plans to manage future growth at our site and will form the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

This procedure is intended to advance the company beyond regulatory compliance and toward conformity with the Performance Standards and Mining Principles, both of which are adhered to by many lending institutions.

Community Investment

We invest in the social infrastructure of the communities where we operate in order to build a foundation for long-term, sustainable changes in their daily lives. Our mission is to promote self-sufficiency and to inspire and mobilize communities to take responsibility for each action.

When a community investment fulfills both corporate and social needs, it is the most effective and long-lasting. A data-driven risk management approach has been used to construct Huangpu Mining's initiatives and investments. This includes comprehensive interaction with stakeholders through formal assessments ( Socio-Economic Impact Assessment and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment ) and continuing community outreach to identify and prioritize mutually beneficial areas of need.

Our Sustainable Development Plan is the outcome of stakeholder engagement and consultation, in which many stakeholders' concerns and aspirations were addressed (communities, local authorities, partners).

Our community development projects are focused on four critical social development areas:

Community relations - Our community development strategy prioritizes mutual trust and open discussion with our communities. We want to create ongoing and participatory communication and engagement channels and possibilities with the neighboring communities and other stakeholders.

A community liaison officer is assigned to each area and is responsible for reporting on community concerns and priorities. In order to review and respond to community complaints in a proactive and responsible manner, a feedback system has been established. Periodic discussions and talks with community leaders and representatives are held with the goal of strengthening and improving our direct and indirect stakeholder relationships.

Local procurement - Support for the development of a diverse and dynamic economic and commercial environment, particularly at the local level, is highly important to our company.

This is why we rely on local contractors and suppliers for some services and items, such as the cleaning campaign, reforestation program, school repair and construction, catering, and the purchasing of agricultural supplies. Our security, safety, and human rights rules and procedures must be followed by all contractors that work for us.

Our team

Our company can rely on an organized and committed department to undertake our community development program and improve our community relations approach. Our group is made up of the following individuals:

  • Managers and supervisors: they are in charge of coordinating and supervising all of the department's activities and expenses. They can also participate in official meetings and forums, as well as interact with outside stakeholders.
  • Officers of Community Liaison: their job is to foster and promote community relations. They are in charge of reporting on community complaints and requests.
  • Community Development Officers: their job is to help local cooperatives, associations, and small businesses carry out community development projects.
  • Public Relations Representatives: their job is to keep an eye on the company's image and visibility in the media. They are also in charge of planning events, forums, and public awareness campaigns.

Human rights

We actively aim to respect the rights of our employees, communities, and other stakeholders in all of our operations and activities. We adhere to the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We are also dedicated to putting the Voluntary Principle of Security and Human Rights into action.
